Here are some of my key inspirations when I think of a Modern home: thoughtful design, Scandinavian craftsmanship, minimalist architecture, vintage finds, echoes of the local physical environment indoors, sleek surfaces. Words of Wisdom from the Experts
We asked some of our in-the-know friends from the interior design and bridal styling worlds to pick the styles they like best. Here are some words of wisdom and handy tips from our Modern Style profile lovers – Brooklyn Bride and Merci New York!
Brooklyn Bride: I’ve always had an affinity towards the modern, which is why I always seek it out with weddings & interiors alike. There’s just something about architecturally stunning yet simple pieces that really does it for me. My ideal table setting is all white, using sleek & graphic pieces like these globe glasses & flatware in a polished chrome finish, and then popping it with the unusual plates. If you register for simple white dinner plates, then get a couple of unusual plates in a smaller dessert size, you can always spice up your dinner table easily. Think of it as a fabulous but plain dress that you can accessorize multiple ways! - Vané Broussard, Editor of Brooklyn Bride
Do decorations always need to be centered?

Merci New York: Myths about having a modern style sensibility:
- A bride with “modern style” is often drawn to clean lines, unfussy shapes and distinctive design, but that doesn’t mean she disregards the past. Many of today’s most modern, of-the-moment designs are inspired by the art-deco period. The clean lines, geometric shapes and understated design of the era actually influenced our petite python clutches with the Greta brooch (shown center). Modern brides have been scooping these up in the black and gold colors for their bridesmaids, and then purchasing the platinum to pair with their gown!
- We also love styling our modern brides with these sleek silver bangles from Madame Mathilde, as well as her Deco pendant necklace. Pair this necklace with a modern frock and this wedding day outfit would be the epitome of downtown chic.
- Modern doesn’t always mean minimalistic.” – Jackie Weppner, Founder of Merci New York
